A Clean Apartment Keeps Out Pests
One of the things that can make life in an apartment or condo building a bit more complicated is pest problems. If someone else in the building has pests, this can quickly spread to other units in the complex, thanks to the interconnected nature of plumbing, wiring, insulation and other structural elements.
However, as an apartment resident, there is one thing you can do that will make your apartment less likely to play host to rodents or roaches, and that is to ensure you keep your unit clean. Pests aren’t random agents of chaos, they come to different apartments for very specific reasons. If food and shelter are easier to obtain, that’s where they’ll go first.
Neatness Protects You
When pests start roaming through an apartment complex, they will target the apartments that are messiest in terms of food. If one apartment unit has college students that are still prone to leaving open boxes of pizza lying exposed all day, for example, that apartment is going to naturally be popular with pests due to the food availability. Roaches and rodents will make a beeline towards it.
On the other hand, if you take the time to always dispose of food in your apartment, and make sure that crumbs and other edible particles are safely stored away in trash, then any “expeditions” into your home are going to be unproductive. You may still deal with pests in transition, as they move from one unit to the next, but your home won’t be a favorite spot.
Ultimately, if there are pests in an apartment or condo complex, it is going to take a collective effort from all residents to get rid of them once and for all. Professional pest control can get rid of an initial infestation, but lifestyles are what will determine whether they come back or not.
